I was never good at developing well-told jokes organically, but here’s a punch line for you:
“Fat food blogger can’t stop eating ice cream and watching Netflix.”
Ben & Jerry’s Punch Line
It’s almost as if Ben & Jerry’s knows that I’ve been doing next-to-nothing with my life for the past year but binge-watching and binge-eating in a pile of my own filth. That’s because they’ve just released their FOURTH Netflix collaboration after Netflix & Chilll’d, Chip Happens, and Boots on the Moooo’n. This time, it’s Ben & Jerry’s Punch Line – an edible advertisement for their comedy sandbox known as “Netflix is a Joke” on YouTube and other social.
Oh, before when I said I was doing “next-to-nothing” but Netflix and eating, the other thing was YouTube and other social.
Ben & Jerry’s Punch Line is “a comedic duo of brown butter bourbon & almond ice creams with roasted almonds and chuckles of cherries.”
What strikes me most about this flavor is how seamlessly the two bases mix, complimenting one another without feeling too redundant. It gets a little too tricky to confirm since the colors are similar (especially when tempered), but it seems that the almond flavored base is the only one studded with roasted almond slivers while the brown butter bourbon base features the soft, chewy cherries. It’s kind of fun to dig and dissect the flavors in isolation, while it still manages to feel like you’re eating one, singular ice cream.
If your concern is that you don’t care for boozy ice cream, fear not as the brown butter bourbon base doesn’t have a strong alcoholic bite at all. I quite enjoy it actually, though my personal preference is for more bourbon (this is a rule I live by on most days). The almond half isn’t too shabby either.
I think the natural inclination for many may be that Ben & Jerry’s Punch Line is missing something. I’m kind of torn myself: on the one hand I think something as simple as a salted caramel or something more unique like a marzipan component could have really boosted this, while on the other I think Ben & Jerry’s should be applauded for giving us anything different than the usual “such and such with fudge flakes.” At the very least, I definitely like this more than I expected to.
Punch Line is like a good knock-knock joke: it’s not your favorite, but your Dad probably loves it.
Burning Questions:
- Knock knock. Who’s there?
- Interrupting Cow. Interrupting cow wh–
- MOOOO! Dammit, Dad.
