Yes, let’s of grunting and farting.

The newest seasonal M&M’s – this time, to celebrate Valentine’s Day – are Black Forest Cake M&M’s.

If you’re not well-versed on Black Forest Cake, it’s a German cake featuring layers of chocolate sponge cake, whipped cream, and cherries, typically flavored with a German liqueur called kirsch, which is made from cherries.

Unfortunately Mars Wrigley isn’t quite ready to make alcoholic M&M’s, so they took a much more simple route.

It’s pretty much just cherries.

Remember the Cherry M&M’s from a few years back? Black Forest Cake M&M’s are very similar, although this time they used layers of both milk chocolate and dark chocolate. The addition of the dark chocolate means the cherry flavoring isn’t quite as strong, but they’re still remarkably similar. The flavor is somewhere between a cherry cordial and a chocolate jelly ring candy.

If they were permanent offering, I don’t think Black Forest Cake M&M’s would be a staple in my rotation. But they’re a perfectly appropriate Valentine’s Candy and I enjoy them as a nice change of pace. The cherry flavoring is quite sweet but I think the dark chocolate does a pretty good job of balancing it out.

Again, the only real bummer is that there isn’t any alcohol.

… and honestly you’ll probably score more points if you just get her a bottle of wine anyway.
