REVIEW: Girl Scouts Toast-Yay! Cookies

by Junk Male · December 21, 2020

The Girl Scouts of USA have a long history of developing leadership qualities in young women, teaching them invaluable skills such as how to set goals and achieve them, think critically to solve problems, and build better relationships.

These skills are great, but they mean shit compared to the greatest skill of all…

Learning how to make cookies that taste like French Toast.

Girl Scouts Toast-Yay! Cookies

Girl Scouts Toast-Yay Cookies

The newest offering to the Girl Scouts lineup in select markets for the 2021 season is the Toast-Yay! cookie – a French Toast-inspired cookie dipped in delicious icing and full of flavor in every bite. Not only do they aim to taste like French Toast, they’re even modeled to look exactly like French Toast. Because vanity is also an essential life skill.

They’re cute as a button and smell utterly delectable.

Seriously, I’ve made French Toast that doesn’t smell as much like French Toast as these cookies do. There’s a huge aroma of cinnamon and maple upon opening the package. I swear to the Man in the clouds, I can smell egg-soaked bread. Give those Girls the Authenticity Badge.

There are 16 cookies to a package, and they’re quite large (almost the size of my palm).

The graphics on the package of the Girl Scouts Toast-Yay! cookies are a bit misleading. It appears at first that they’re sandwich cookies with creme in the middle – like Toast-shaped Oreos. But in reality, each cookie just has its underside dipped in icing.

And although I would have preferred a sandwich cookie, the format doesn’t hinder how great these cookies are. Each cookie is like a cross between a standard shortbread cookie and a bowl of French Toast Crunch. The cookies use real cinnamon and real maple syrup, so it doesn’t appear the ladies cut many corners. There’s a great balance of sweet and spice, and – most importantly – they truly taste like French Toast.

If you’re a French Toast blowhard, I recommend soaking these crunchy cookies in milk to give them a more genuine French Toast texture.

Having successfully conquered a breakfast cookie, I now await some lunch and dinner-inspired treats so I can have my entire meal plan decided by an Army of 8-year old girls.

Burning Questions:

  1. Do you ever cook anything for yourself? Yes.
  2. Like what? Cookies.
  3. Maybe you should join the Girl Scouts. I’ve thought about it.
