If this is the closest we’ll ever get to Oreo rice, I’ll take it!
Kellogg’s Cookies & Creme Krispies
Sure, Oreo O’s came back a few years ago, but for my money, the more cereals that taste like Oreos the better.
And speaking of money, regular Rice Krispies will never get mine. Sorry Snap, my apologies Crackle, and does anyone even like you, Pop? But plain Rice Krispies are useless to me unless they’re held together by butter and marshmallow, and any cereal with less than double digit sugars per serving will never find its way onto my breakfast table. (This is basically Chapter One of my book: This is Why I’m Fat.)
But problem solved with Kellogg’s new Cookies & Creme Krispies! Not only are the sugars cranked up, but they added cookies (sort of!) The little grains of puffed rice have even littler chocolate-cookie looking things on them to add some personality and flavor to a cereal I pretty much retired when I was out of diapers.
You’ll notice these Rice Krispies are glazed/frosted, which is where I guess we’re getting the “creme” part of Cookies & Creme.
My excitement dissipates quickly, however, as Cookies & Creme Krispies doesn’t accomplish what I was hoping it would. Not only does it not taste like Oreos, but it doesn’t capture that “vanilla & chocolate” combination like you would find in the popular ice cream flavor. I wish the glaze added a distinct vanilla flavor but it does not.
Unfortunately, Cookies & Creme Krispies doesn’t even taste very sweet for the 13g of sugar per serving it’s going to run you. The little cookie specs are too small and too infrequent to add enough chocolate flavor too. I think all they did was take the Frosted Krispies and add a sprinkle of cocoa, which sounds great, but in execution it tastes like Cocoa Krispies with only about 3% of the cocoa.
It’s perfectly edible, but far from spectacular.
Where are my Oreos?
Burning Questions:
- Where ARE your Oreos? Under my pillow.
- Why are they un… Because I eat Oreos in my sleep.
- How is that even possible? If you can dream it, you can live it, buddy.
