One of my favorite thing on the junk food seasonal calendar is when holidays converge.
You know exactly what I’m talking about. One night you’re sitting in your backyard basking in the summer heat making s’mores, and the next morning you’re eating a big ole’ bowl of Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes.
Another example is when the Christmas holiday transitions to the season of love. You’re enjoying your fifth container of Trader Joe’s Jingle Jangle one day, and the next you’re storing your Valentine’s Red Velvet Kit Kats in your empty Jingle Jangle tin because ain’t no way that Christmas crack is lasting until February 14th.
It’s even better when you can combine two holidays directly. One time I made s’mores using cinnamon graham crackers, white chocolate, and pumpkin spice marshmallows, because pumpkin spice will always be my favorite thing on the calendar.
But one thing I’ve never had is a Pumpkin Spice Christmas Tree.
Until now!
Little Debbie Holiday Spice Christmas Tree Cakes
Ok ignore technicality, because technically these are Holiday Spice Christmas Tree Cakes. But the fine print reveals “cinnamon, cloves, & nutmeg”, so for the purposes of this junk food fantasy… these are totally Pumpkin Spice Christmas Tree Cakes.
Santa doesn’t seem as optimistic about them as I do, however, as he has opted for another treat.
But my enthusiasm will not be swayed…
I love spice cake, I love Christmas trees, and I love Little Debbie.
Aesthetically, Debbie cut a corner or two when decorating this Christmas Tree. Both the Vanilla and Chocolate Christmas Tree Cakes are adorned with bright frosting garland in addition to sprinkle ornaments. This one just has red and gold sprinkles. However we all know it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and what’s inside this cake is pumpkin spice!
Also note on the website that these appear to be replacing the Red Velvet Christmas Tree Cakes.
And I’m very okay with that, because I think these are my favorite of all the Christmas Tree Cakes!
The spices do a great job of masking the less endearing qualities of Debbie’s actual cake. We all know she earns her dollars using copious amounts of frosting and creme filling, but the spices inject some life into the cake itself. The spices are evident and provide good contrast for the sweet creme filling. Cinnamon first, then a blasphemous amount of creme, with some deeper spice late.
I won’t completely oversell it; if you think Debbie’s cakes are too sweet (a fair criticism), this one won’t change your opinion. But if your taste buds are as trashy as mine are with stuff like this, you’ll welcome these holiday spices into your arteries.
A merry send-off for pumpkin spice indeed.
Burning Questions:
- You know these aren’t actually pumpkin spice flavored, right?A man can dream.
- What’s your favorite Little Debbie? The same as Santa’s.
- Do you weigh more than Santa? Yes.
