It’s been a precipitous fall for Junk Banter.
Not many years ago, when I was a healthy man, I wouldn’t consume milk. Too many calories, too much fat, and lots of farts. Just wouldn’t go near it.
Then I switched to almond milk. Lower calories, less fat, and more vitamins, probably.
Next came coconut milk. Higher in fat, sure, but it tastes better and is generally creamier.
Then I started Junk Banter…
Now I’m at a point where my only milk is ice cream.
Nestle Dreyer’s Lucky Charms Frozen Dairy Dessert
Honestly, who needs milk and non-milk alternatives when they just sell cereal directly in ice cream now?
And if you needed more convincing on why you should make the jump from milk to ice cream (I don’t!), consider that Nestle Dreyer’s Lucky Charms Ice Cream is actually the lightest of light ice creams; it’s actually frozen dairy dessert. That means it has less fat and less calories than regular ice cream, is especially lower on milkfat, and is probably better for you than a bowl of milk (who knows!*)
*It’s not.
Nestle Dreyer’s Lucky Charms Frozen Dairy Dessert is vanilla frozen dairy dessert with a cereal swirl and Lucky Charms marshmallows. Unlike the Nestle Dreyer’s Cinnamon Toast Crunch ice cream, there’s legitimate confirmation that these are the same mallows from Lucky Charms and not some generic knockoff. Authenticity points awarded for using the king of all cereal marshmallows.
Now, you really shouldn’t get hung up that this is frozen dairy dessert and not light ice cream like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor. I honestly can’t tell any difference to the texture or body of this Lucky Charms one. The only difference to the nutritional label is one less gram of fat versus its Cinnamon Toast counterpart, which I suspect dropped it just below the threshold for being called ice cream.
The flavor, though, is spot on Lucky Charms cereal milk.
While the base is just vanilla, there’s enough Lucky Charms marbits in here that their flavor permeates the entirety of that base. For realsies. What’s more impressive is that the marshmallows aren’t frozen solid or extra gummy; they’re perfectly chewy and satisfying.
My only real complaint here is the lack of variety. The cereal swirl adds that oat-i-ness (not a word) necessary for an oat cereal ice cream, but it lacks the crunch and textural contrast. It’s really hard to notice it’s even there. But I suppose this won’t be much of a problem for most people since all they really want is a box full of marshmallows – or in this case, a frozen tub full of them.
Nestle Dreyer’s Lucky Charms Frozen Dairy Dessert is more than just a gimmick…
It’s the frozen dairy dessert version of leprechaun shit.
