Watch out, Little Girls… Oreo is coming for ya!
Mint Creme Fudge Covered Oreos
Okay that sounded way creepier than I intended it… I’ll explain.
The “Little Girls” I refer to are the Girl Scouts, because Oreo is throwing down a fierce rival to Thin Mints with their new Mint Creme Fudge Covered Oreos.
Apparently regular Mint Oreos just weren’t enough. By covering Mint Oreos in a chocolatey coating similar to what those poor girls are pouring their hearts into with Thin Mints, Oreo is essentially curb-stomping the competition in the mint chocolate cookie game. They could have released another stupid Swedish Fish Oreo or whatever crazy concoction their mad flavor scientists have in the pipeline and still sold it like crazy, but nooo. They had to double down on the one thing the Girl Scouts are famous for building (outside of courage, confidence, and character, which nobody cares about).
Why on Earth would I want to raise money for a good cause, when I can put WAY better cookies in my mouth for CHEAPER?
This is a Big League bully move by Oreo.
It truly does not matter that the fudge coating isn’t premiere quality. As already discussed in the original Fudge Covered Oreo review, the coating tastes good and adds a new layer of chocolatey sweetness to a cookie whose only chocolate was a bitter one in the wafer. It also melts in your mouth as you chew and adds more creaminess than the creme alone.
When you combine it with Oreo’s popular, tried-and-true Mint Creme, you are left with a much better cookie than anything a six-year-old can produce.
Overall, Mint Creme Fudge Covered Oreos do taste a lot like Thin Mints, but are better in just about every way. It’s a more mellow mint, a more satisfying chew, and more chocolatey overall. Having the creamy component at its core is probably the thing I enjoy most about them.
I also like that I can buy it at Target and not through some coworker I don’t want to talk to, or God forbid I ever have kids and have to work through them to get to the goods.
RIP to the Girl Scouts.
Burning Questions:
- You know those girls don’t actually MAKE the cookies, right? WHAT?!
- Curb-stomping little girls is a terribly inappropriate visual. But a good metaphor.
- It’s not a good metaphor. WHAT?!
