Let me get some things straight before I dive into this review. Here’s what I know about gluten:
- Nothing.
- It tastes great.
Yes, I am probably the LAST guy that should review some gluten-free cookies. Sure, it’s possible I have a gluten allergy. But there would be know way of knowing; I eat so much garbage that when my tummy rumbles and my butt explodes, it could be from any number of things.
So, as you might expect, I don’t eat a lot of gluten-free things – unless it’s by accident. Therefore, I just want you to know that when I review these new Gluten Free Oreos, I can only compare them to regular Oreos and not its gluten-free competition.
My job is tell you how close they taste to the real deal.
Nabisco Gluten Free Oreos
Apparently, Nabisco has been working on these Gluten Free Oreos for quite some time. It’s a natural assumption that they’ve put a lot of work into making these tasted just right sans the gluten before finally releasing them to the public. Said one Oreo representative whose existence I made up:
Rest assured, that when your stomach hurts because you ate too many Oreos, that it’s not the gluten.
Gluten Free Oreos come in both regular and Double Stuf, but I only bought the Double Stuff. Because gluten or not, Double Stuf > regular Stuf.
Let’s start with what makes these gluten-free: I don’t know*.
Moving on, Gluten Free Oreos smell exactly like regular Oreos. The nutritional facts are the same across the board, too. So, it would appear to be true that they DID put lot of work into these to make them as identical as possible to the original recipe.
And I swear, if you blindfolded me, I wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference once you repeatedly assured me that the blindfold was definitely not sexual in nature. The blindfold is important because the gluten free Oreo actually does have the words “gluten free” printed onto the surface of the wafer, just in case you ever got your Oreos mixed up. The gluten free ones are also a little less dark in color.
But seriously, the taste is a SPOT ON replica, and the texture is too.
There’s not much else to say: I tried each version back-to-back several times actively looking for key differences and couldn’t detect any. Nabisco did a phenomenal job with the Gluten Free Oreos.
A resounding victory for glutards everywhere.
*Editor’s Note: Gluten-free Oreos are certified gluten free because they use a blend of white rice flour, tapioca starch, and oat flour instead of wheat flour.
