I have a lot of weird food rules, and one of them is that I LOVE when things have the word “smash” in them.
Peanut Butter Brownie Smash Quest Bar
Truly out of nowhere (there is no announcement as of this writing), Quest has released a new Quest Bar.
Peanut Butter Brownie Smash is billed as a new “Double Layered Protein Bar” – the first of its kind for Quest. There’s no word yet if there are other flavors in this configuration, but years and years of reviewing junk food and protein bars for nobody has led me to this rock-solid conclusion: probably.
The Peanut Butter Brownie Smash Quest Bar has nutritional info right on par with the normal Quest Bars: 190 calories, 20g protein, 24g carbs, 7g fat, 14g fiber and 2g sugar. The two layers are split evenly but are identical in texture both to each other and to normal Quest Bars (as opposed to say, the Quest Hero Bars).
They really look as if Quest Bar took two Quest Bars and literally smashed them together… like the two are f*cking, or something.
And quite honestly that’s exactly what this tastes like. No, not like sex, but like two previously-existing Quest Bars welded together.
The Peanut Butter half tastes a lot like the Peanut Butter Supreme Quest Bar and a little like the Peanut Butter Quest Protein Cookies. It tastes more of roasted peanuts than a sweetened peanut butter, which I think is what turned many people off about the PB Supreme Quest Bar. It could use a little more salt or sweetener, but working in its favor are these small chocolatey chunks that Quest added to make this bar a little more smashable.
There’s no mistaking it; the Brownie half tastes like the Chocolate Brownie Quest Bar. I always low-key enjoyed that bar for having a deeper chocolate flavor and a little bit of salt to it. But it doesn’t seem to be one of the company’s more popular flavors, as there’s no shortage of sweeter candy-bar-like chocolate protein bars from competition. Quest added little peanut bits to this half to tie the flavors together, and once again I enjoy that.
While the review is pretty basic, I do think the combination of the two and the addition of chocolatey bits and peanut bits makes the Peanut Butter Brownie Smash a considerably better option.
Since I know some Quest diehards swear by baking their Quest Bars, I gave that a go too.
I totally burnt mine, but it probably would have been better if I knew how to use an oven.
We should smash everything.
Burning Questions:
- When do these come out? I bought mine at 7-Eleven, so they’re out.
- I didn’t see Quest announce this one? I said that in the review.
- Where did you buy this? I just said…. *sigh*
Place of Purchase: 7-Eleven
Rating: 7.5 out of 10
