REVIEW: Keebler Fudge Stripes Pumpkin Spice Cookies

The Keebler elves have been quite busy as of late. They’ve been hard at work rolling out limited edition varieties of their popular Fudge Stripes line including Red Velvet and Cookies and Cream. It should come as no surprise that they want to get in on the pumpkin spice action with these new Fudge Stripes Pumpkin Spice cookies. Bless their tiny pumpkin spice hearts.

It’s been a long while since I’ve had any Keebler Fudge Stripes cookies, but I obviously had little choice than to try these Pumpkin Spice Fudge Stripe cookies. The innocent, clueless child in me remembers enjoying these cookies, but the marginally-more-mature version of me didn’t have high expectations for the Fudge Stripes brand. In my adult years, I’ve never viewed Keebler Fudge Stripes as being capable of a sophisticated cookie. As you’ve probably figured out by now, I’m somewhat critical when it comes to pumpkin spice products. I demand greatness.

There’s a HUGE pumpkin spice aroma when you open these bad boys. The scent is genuine and not artificial. Did I set my bar too low? Taking a bite confirmed that I did. These cookies are LEGIT pumpkin spice. The leading flavors are the deeper spices in the pumpkin spice blend; instead of an overdose of cinnamon, I’m getting a lot of clove and ginger. I’m kind of reminded of gingerbread cookies with more pumpkin flavor, and that’s a good thing. The cookies are crispy and light, but the flavor is robust and dense.

There’s a thick layer of white icing on these cookies that adds a good deal of sweetness with no discernible flavor. It makes the cookies more visually appealing, but I’m not sure it amounts to anything more than decoration. No matter. The balance between the sweetness and the spices is remarkable for a Keebler product. The package I opened was a sticky white mess, perhaps exposed to hot temperatures in my car too long or perhaps indicating that the Keebler elves got a little too excited about these pumpkin spice cookies.

While I had tempered expectations, these Keebler Pumpkin Spice Fudge Stripe cookies are a dark horse for Best Pumpkin Product of 2015. I can’t imagine how any pumpkin spice fan would be disappointed with these. The authentic pumpkin spices are just delightful, and they’re dangerously addictive because of how light they are. Sticking to the serving size of two cookies is going to be a challenge for pumpkin spice junkies. Unless you are an idiot and don’t embrace pumpkin everything, you will not want to pass these up. Head to the nearest Walmart and grab these before the Keebler elves move on to winter seasonals.
