REVIEW: Nabisco Piña Colada Oreo Thins

by Junk Male · April 30, 2018

This is Part 3 and the finale of our series: “We Did This to Ourselves.”

Last year, Oreo held the #MyOreoCreation contest. Fans were encouraged to submit their flavor ideas with rules that were loose at best.

From the official contest rules: “Enter by texting your idea that captures the next creation or essence/inspiration of a creation that an Oreo cookie should capture.” One of their actual examples was “singing in the rain,” and the by-laws restricted sexually explicit or suggestive submissions. All of my submissions were now null and void.

Faced with endless opportunity so long as it didn’t give you a boner, we landed on three finalists. Two of them are drinks, and one is popcorn. You see what happens when we’re left to our own devices?

Ladies and gentleman… this is review three of three.

Piña Colada Oreo Thins feature the golden wafer and a pina colada flavored creme, aka pineapple and coconut. In a best case scenario, they will taste similar to the amazing Toasted Coconut Oreos from 2015. In a more likely scenario, they will taste bad because we are not good at this.

There is no alcohol in Piña Colada Oreo Thins, therefore I am not particularly interested.

No matter how many times I buy them, I’m always a little surprised at just how thin the Oreo Thins really are. I fear that many people dismiss them as “Stupid Oreos” when in reality they’re remarkably fun to eat for reasons difficult to pinpoint. The crunch is more satisfying, perhaps? You feel like you’re losing weight when eating them, maybe? Because they’re basically Oreo crackers?

Whatever the reason, I’m happy to report that these virgin Pina Colada Oreos – one of two virgins hovering around my laptop right now – aren’t half bad.

You’ll have to forgive my lack of excitement when describing Piña Colada Oreo Thins, because they don’t generate much to speak of.

Here’s what they are:

  • Accurate.
  • Fruity.
  • Refreshing.

Here’s what they’re not:

  • Ground-breaking.
  • Alcoholic.
  • The Carrot Cake Oreos I submitted for the #MyOreoCreation contest.

But accepting them for they are, Nabisco got a great deal right.

The pineapple is authentic and “juicy,” and the coconut doesn’t taste like sun tan lotion. Both flavors are apparent but not dominant, as the vanilla wafer contributes significantly to the overall profile.

… and that’s about it.

Piña Colada Oreo Thins will satisfy fans of the beverage, and be gross to those who hate it.

But I must admit: I sure hate how not drunk they’re getting me.

How Badly I Want to Get Drunk From Eating Oreos Rating: 10 out of 10
How Often I Have Gotten Drunk Then Eaten Oreos Rating: 8 out of 10
Overall Rating: 7 out of 10
