Hey, if you were 164 years old, you might forget which season it is too…
Keebler Dark Chocolate Mint Fudge Stripes sure sounds like a winter flavor, but the Elves just keep churning out cookies at such a fast rate that they bypassed fall altogether. If it seems like just yesterday that we were eating summer Strawberry Cheesecake Fudge Stripes and Lemon Cream Pie Fudge Stripes, it’s because we were.
Anyway, Merry Christmas from the Keebler Elves!
Imagine my delight when Ernie the Elf himself slid into my Twitter DMs to let me know he had cookies to send me! Pretty impressive that a 164-year-old man is so adept at social media.
“I hope your day is as sweet as fudge,” he wrote. Old man’s got some game!
He’s considerably less skilled at packaging things appropriately. When I opened the enormous box planted behind my house, I was nearly certain it contained a dead Elf:
Thankfully it was just a package of really, really protected cookies. But the unfortunate thing about sending cookies in the wrong season (summer) is that they begin to melt rather furiously.
To the best of my knowledge, Keebler Dark Chocolate Mint Fudge Stripes are just their second cookie to feature a chocolate base, trailing only Cookies & Crème. They smell delightfully minty; a cooling menthol tickles the nostrils, with plenty of hints of chocolate rounding out the aroma.
I don’t even care what the calendar says right now because these cookies are quite fantastic.
Look, we all know the gold standard remains Girl Scouts’ Thin Mints. It’s a tall order for any chocolate mint cookie to go toe-to-toe with them, but I’ll tell you what – the Elves land some pretty damn good punches before the Girl Scouts knock their asses back to the Hollow Tree.
The cool mint present in the smell translates wonderfully to the taste. It comes from peppermint oil in the recipe, and though it’s less strong than in Thin Mints, it’s an awfully satisfying mint. The graphics on the packaging include candies similar to Andes Mints, and that’s a good reference point for how minty these are. The chocolate is about as “dark” as an Oreo cookie wafer is, and that’s pretty much the only criticism here. I think of dark chocolate as more refined than this, but the balance between this chocolate and the strong-but-not-too-strong mint works very, very well.
My Christmas spirit might have raised this score had it been winter, but well-played, Ernie! If you keep sliding into my DMs to give me cookies this good, then you and I will be cybering in no time.
Ernie’s Twitter Game Rating: 10 out of 10
How Much I Wanna See the Elves vs. Girl Scouts in a Steel Cage Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Overall Rating: 8.5 out of 10
Disclosure: In case you didn’t read the review (you didn’t), these cookies were indeed sent to me free of charge by Keebler. It did not affect my score, nor my decision to cyber with Ernie if things ever get there.

Is it sad that I’m jealous of that box? I want a special cookie crate!
