With a couple of months under our belts, it’s time to focus on how much we’re failing at our New Year’s resolutions.
The common person is going to gain some weight around the holidays. Most of us just accept it as inevitable with all the treats, celebrations, and unnecessary nights of drinking we didn’t need to pile on top of it. So as the calendar turns, we aim to slim down a bit.
Nabisco Chips Ahoy! cookies are doing a good job apparently, as they’ve lost some weight with two new varieties: Oatmeal & Double Chocolate Chips Ahoy! Thins.
Me? Not so much. I just reviewed three new , a day after reviewing four different kinds of Ben & Jerry’s Pint Slices. These Chips Ahoy! Thins are basically salad by comparison.
First up is the Nabisco Chips Ahoy! Thins Oatmeal variety. These are made with real chocolate chips instead of my preferred oatmeal complement – the raisin. Personally? I think this was a poor choice.
Like all the Thins, these cookies are thin & crispy as all hell. While it’s great that there’s so many chocolate chips, the regular Chips Ahoy! chips serve to distract from this being an oatmeal version. Chocolate chips are higher on the ingredient list than rolled outs, and I’m just not so sure that should be the case with oatmeal cookies.
All of the other familiar flavors of a Chips Ahoy! cookies are present: a brown sugar sweetness and semisweet chocolate. But the oats modify this profile only by the Chips Ahoy! Thinnest of margins. The raisin paste as well as the cinnamon & ginger spices tucked way down on the ingredient list go unnoticed. They’re also vaguely coconutty for some reason.
A decent snack? I guess, but look elsewhere for an oatmeal cookie fix.

Much better.
The Double Chocolate Chips Ahoy! Thins combine elements of Shiela G’s Brownie Brittle with classic Chips Ahoy cookies. They have a gritty brown sugar flavor and mouthfeel with bursts of semisweet chocolate candy and a more complex flavor layered underneath. The cocoa baked into the cookie makes each bite taste more like chocolate than the original (Inner Voice: “No shit, Sherlock, that’s why they’re called Double Chocolate.”)
The more I ate these though, the more their taste defaulted back towards original Chips Ahoy! Thins. This suggests that the cocoa flavor in the base cookie could have been amplified to make them more distinctive. I will caveat here that I ate seven cookies, which suggests that I still liked them a lot.

Oatmeal is a pass, but Double Chocolate Chips Ahoy! Thins join the Original & Cinnamon Sugar varieties on the list of “Cookies That I Like.” Pick them up if you want to continue failing at your New Year’s resolution but at half the speed.

Have you tried the Oreo Thins? I personally like those a lot and wonder how you think the oreo thins compare to these chips ahoy thins.
Yes of course! I was more impressed with the initial chips ahoy thins release than the Oreo thins; I think the cinnamon sugar variety is the best product of all. You can find a couple of those reviews below if you’d like:

I bought the Chips Ahoy Double Chocolate thins!
I love crunchy cookies. These fit the bill for that. I love great flavor. This one can’t be beat! Perfect for the chocolate lover who would like to cut back on calories, but not flavor! Awesome!
