While it’s no secret that I’m a filthy little pumpkin slut, I’ll be the first to admit we’ve been spoiled with pumpkin in the U.S.  From pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin pie cookie butters to pumpkin spice cough drops (no, really), it’s quite easy to forget our country’s original pumpkin roots.

Does anyone remember when Grandma used to whip up her classic pumpkin cobbler?

Yeah, me neither…

I’m pretty sure Nestle Toll House just invented pumpkin cobbler and immediately made a cookie out of it.

Here’s the recipe, apparently: pumpkin, oats, spices, and pumpkin pie filling. Nestle Toll House Pumpkin Cobbler cookies take all these things and pack them into break-and-bake cookie dough.

It’s also possible Grandma just forgot what the hell it was she used to make. Her memory’s not quite what it used to be.

Nice little dollop of pumpkin pie filling oozing from the center of each square. And when they say “pumpkin pie filling,” they really were not kidding. It’s definitely delicious pumpkin pie filling! This fact I made certain of as I ate my way through multiple pieces of raw cookie dough, despite the all-caps DO NOT CONSUME RAW COOKIE DOUGH threats on the package.

My mom was pretty worried about me but my Grandma was pretty cool about it, as is often the case.

It’s a healthy amount of pumpkin pie filling in each cookie, too, as you can instantly taste the real pumpkin puree and cinnamon tucked within the raw cookie dough.

Concerned at the threat I poised to myself, my Mom intervened and baked the rest for 11 minutes at 350.

Moms are such buzzkills sometimes.

Buzzkill or not, Mom sure know best! When heated, that pumpkin pie filling really comes to life.

As for the rest of the Nestle Toll House Pumpkin Cobbler cookie? Imagine a really good oatmeal raisin, except you took out all the stupid raisins and replaced then with better-than-raisin PUMPKIN PIE FILLING. You really get a full-bodied cinnamon oatmeal flavor and crisp texture in every bite around the edges, and then you get the delightfully soft pumpkin pie center. I do wish the pumpkin in the actual cookie dough stood out more, but you definitely get enough pumpkin fix from the filling alone.

I’ve lived every day of my life until now not having Pumpkin Cobbler, and you know what?

I think I’ve been a fool.
