Yesterday I reviewed Sour Patch Kids Freeze.
I think they got stuck…
What the HELL is going on with the Sour Patch Kids and this new Sour Patch Kids Ice Cream? Am I supposed to want to eat it? Should I be concerned that I actually kind of want to?
First there was Sour Patch Kids Go-Gurt, and now this… what is going on?
At least this one doesn’t look like blue raspberry semen.
The Sour Patch Kids continue their quest to take over the planet by teaming with Nestle Dreyer’s to make this monstrosity. Inside the container is lemon sorbet and vanilla light ice cream with a redberry swirl and blue sour patch kids bitz. Because that’s exactly how you want to market an ice cream…
“Now with chopped up kids!”
Lots of interesting choices all around, such as mixing sorbet and ice cream, going with a lemon sorbet, including gummy candies in ice cream, and spelling “bitz” with a z.
And every. single. choice. pays off.
This is the best sweet & sour dessert I’ve had since I put Starburst in my sweet & sour chicken (true story).
Let’s start with the ice cream + sorbet. I don’t see any separation between the vanilla light ice cream and lemon sorbet; it all blends together, and it tastes like the lemony equivalent of a Creamsicle. A fantastic Lemonsicle. Another comparison is an Italian lemon ice but with a creamy dairy component. It’s more lemony than it is vanilla, which helps with the sour candy theme.
The Redberry Swirl is everything. Seriously. It sits like thin sheets of icing but has a perfectly sugary grit, and tastes exactly like the Redberry Sour Patch Kid. Like he and his entire family was slaughtered, mangled, and their parts dispersed evenly throughout the container.
Yum!
The final component is the Blue Sour Patch Kids bitz. The major concern was whether or not these would be frozen solid, and thankfully they aren’t. Most pieces are chopped so finely that their texture doesn’t interfere other than providing some fun and novelty to drive home that this is – and I can’t stress this enough – a Sour Patch Kids ice cream. That said, I can’t say they contribute much in the way of flavor. Very subtle.
Nestle Dreyer’s Sour Patch Ice Kids Red White & Blue Ice Cream & Sorbet is a 71 character ice cream (with spaces) that I really love. It’s addicting, refreshing, and so America both in appearance and because we’re the only country crazy enough to offer something this ludicrous.
Why are Sour Patch Kids good with EVERYTHING?
Using a “Z” Instead of an “S” For No Reason Rating: Zix out of 10
Beaten and Bloody Sour Patch Kids Rating: 8 out of 10
Overall Rating: 8.5 out of 10
