What’s your gold standard for breakfast cereal? Is it Oreo O’s? (It’s Oreo O’s.)
Boy have I got some news for you…
The golden darling of the breakfast table just got even more Golden with brand new Golden Oreo O’s by Post.
Post is really spoiling the shit out of us lately. First they brought Oreo O’s back from the dead after a cold and somber forever, and just one year later they’re doubling down with Golden Oreo O’s. Do you guys have any idea what this means? Next year we could have Birthday Cake Oreo O’s. The following? Red Velvet Oreo O’s!
HOLY SHIT, POST MAKES FRUITY PEBBLES. WE COULD TOTALLY HAVE FRUITY CRISP OREO O’S.
Here’s the description from the back of the box:
Is this a dream? Golden, crunchy O’s and a rich creme coating combine to bring that Golden Oreo cookie taste you love to your breakfast table. So incredibly delicious, you might want to pinch yourself. But not too hard, because it’s not a dream.
Geeze, thanks for the spoiler alert…
I know what you’re probably thinking – isn’t a golden, O-shaped cereal just… ya know… cereal?
For the most part… yes, but it happens to be one of the better “straightforward” options out there. It’s a corn-based cereal that’s high on the sugar – each piece is glistening white with glaze and a light vanilla flavor.
Think Cap’n Crunch meets Frosted Flakes.
That said – it’s nowhere near as good as regular chocolate Oreo O’s, and not even as good as sweeter classics like Frosted Flakes, Lucky Charms, or the new Lucky Charms Frosted Flakes.
The parallels between Golden Oreo O’s and its cookie self begin and end with sugar, and I guess that shouldn’t be all that surprising. The Golden Oreo cookie does have a nuanced, shortbread-like flavor in its wafer, but it’s the sugar and vanilla that stand out most. These flavors are very common in breakfast cereal and nailing the extra nuance was a pretty tall order for Post.
At least in milk, Golden Oreo O’s gets credit for retaining a strong crunch and preserving most of its sweetness.
This is a fun cereal to see on shelves; it tastes good and I’m glad it exists. But I guess we could pinch ourselves a little harder, because a Golden Oreo replica in cereal form was, in fact, a dream.
Post… just bring on the Fruity Crisp Oreo O’s already so I can stop doing this:
Pinching Yourself Twice During Breakfast Rating: 2 out of 10
How Much We NEED Fruity Crisp Oreo O’s Rating: 10 out of 10

This cereal was a bit of a disappointment to me since it basically reminded me of Cap’n Crunch Sprinkled Donut. Should have bought the Nilla Wafer cereal instead.
