“Coffee, the favorite drink of the civilized world.”
~ Thomas Jefferson“Coffee is a language in itself.”
~ Jackie Chan“Without my morning coffee I’m just like a dried up piece of roast goat.”
~ Johann Sebastian Bach“If I don’t eat a sleeve of Oreos every day, I will die.”
~ Junk Banter
If there’s anything that Thomas Jefferson, Jackie Chan, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Junk Banter can agree on, it’s that coffee and Oreos make the world go round.
These new Java Chip Oreos may very well be the key to life…
Nabisco Java Chip Oreos
Alright, I’m no idiot and neither are you, Thomas Jefferson, Jackie Chan, or Johann Sebastian Bach. We’ve all had PLENTY of coffee-flavored Oreos in the past; they’ve all been good, and these new Java Chip Oreos are likely to follow suit. Therefore, we welcome them to the full-time Oreo lineup for 2021.
While certainly familiar, Java Chip Oreos offer a new wrinkle. Resting between two chocolate Oreo wafers is a coffee-flavored creme that’s studded with chocolatey chips. While Latte Oreo Thins and Dunkin’ Donuts Mocha Oreos were modeled after the iconic coffee beverages, and Tiramisu Oreos were modeled after the popular coffee-flavored Italian dessert, the goal with Java Chip Oreos is to mimic the popular java chip ice cream.
The only problem is, the flavor doesn’t get there.
Look, there’s not much to dissect here. These Oreos taste good, but the problem with an “everyday” flavor like coffee is that if you keep doing the same thing over and over, it loses some of its luster each time. You might spruce up your morning coffee by trying a different blend, roast, or coffee creamer every now and again, but the Nabisco Java Chip Oreos just feel like more of the same.
I thought MAYBE this creme would be a sweeter coffee flavor since they’ve got a big ole’ scoop of ice cream on the front of the package, but I honestly don’t think these taste much different than the Tiramisu Oreos that came out last year (they might even taste a little worse). It’s a straight coffee flavor, but I don’t think it’s as sweet as the Tiramisu, Latte Thins, or Dunkin’ Mocha flavors were. The little bits of chocolatey chips in the creme couldn’t be more of a nonfactor, and I don’t find myself wanting to eat more than a couple.
If the Java Chip Oreos were a cup of coffee, they would be a stale cup from the Hampton Inn.
Burning Questions:
- Do you really put yourself in the same company as Jackie Chan? I would make a great Kung Fu Panda.
- He wasn’t the panda; he was a monkey. I would make a great Curious George…
- Better than Frank Welker? FINE, I WOULD HAVE MADE A GREAT DUNSTON CHECKS IN.

Oreo could do an ice cream sandwich line with different ice cream flavors.
