We should all be ashamed of ourselves.
The only thing in life that excites me more than a limited edition Oreo is a junk food brand partnership, but yeeesh…
It’s been a precipitous decline for brand partnerships with Oreo cookies. Dairy Queen came first with the DQ Blizzard Oreo. Ice cream and Oreos? Awesome idea! Next came Reese’s Oreos, an outstanding hybrid of peanut butter cups and cookies. Where did we go from there? Swedish Fish Oreos. Might as well have been Robitussin…
Which brings us to Peeps Oreos.
Here’s the last review I did of Peeps:
In the worst case scenario, they’ll taste like Peeps.
I bit into the cookie and here’s how it went: a surprised and optimistic “Oh!” followed soon by a disappointed “Oh…”
Peeps Oreos are very sweet – not Candy Corn Oreo sweet, but sweeter than regular Golden Oreos. At the same time, it’s not a very strong flavor like in the Marshmallow Crispy Oreos. It’s a muted flavor that’s vaguely vanilla – kind of like regular Oreo creme. What makes them fun is that there’s noticeable sugar crystals buried within the creme. This is a signature quality of Peeps and props to Nabisco for incorporating this.
Less props to Nabisco for this foul aftertaste. I ate some of the pink creme by itself and was met with a pungent, chemically aftertaste. It goes from sweet to bitter very quickly – you could even say it’s bittersweet (ugh).
It’s not as strong as the aftertaste in the Swedish Fish Oreos, but it’s impossible to ignore once you detect it. The bitter flavor lingers in the back of your mouth. For the love of God, don’t twist and lick this Oreo.
Fortunately, the Golden wafer overpowers most of the creme’s flavor when eating a full cookie. The vanilla wafers serves to temper the creme’s sweetness (a plus) as well as its aftertaste (a necessity). It’s a palatable cookie but definitely not something I desire to finish. And I can’t really say it reminded me of Peeps.
So I tried this:
Only marginally better.
Okay I think we can all admit Peeps Oreos was a dumb idea.
Dumb Idea Rating: 9 out of 10
Peeps Rating: They Suck out of 10
Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 10

Peeps are gross. ‘Nuff said.
Dammit. I could have cut so many words out of the review.
