Are the ripest strawberries the big fat ones? Because man, these things are SWOLLEN.

Pillsbury Grands! Strawberries & Cream Cinnamon Rolls

These new cinnamon rolls are ripe. as. hell, as Pillsbury Grands! have chosen Strawberries & Cream as their latest limited edition way to get fat.

These rolls represent a significant departure from many of the company’s limited time offerings – like the Hot Cocoa Rolls, Maple Brown Sugar Rolls, and S’mores Rolls – in that the base remains a cinnamon roll on top of the advertised flavor.

It’s a questionable decision pairing strawberries with cinnamon, but this is what happens when you let me pick my own fruit.

To make these, simply:

1. Smash the container against the counter and have a heart attack.
2. Throw onto a baking sheet.
3. Bake in the oven for a goddamned eternity.

The deafeningly pink strawberries & cream icing tastes pretty good! It’s like the ripest, sweetest strawberry was picked, pureed, discarded and then made entirely with chemicals and a shit-ton of sugar.  It’s crazy sweet – as it should be, since it’s icing.

In a space where strawberry-flavored anything usually tastes like Strawberry Nesquik, this icing plays up the “cream” component to a notable degree.

Slathered on a steaming hot roll, a light strawberry flavor is immediate but fleeting. It doesn’t clash with the cinnamon at all, especially because these rolls never seem to have enough cinnamon. But as it melts down and turns to a glaze, it eventually just tastes like some sweetness layered onto a very biscuity browned bread.

A biscuit that I really, really enjoy.

More successful than some of the past limited editions, Pillsbury Grands! Cinnamon Rolls could still benefit from a strawberry flavoring folded into the dough somehow.

I absolutely loved the combination as I began to tear off pieces of the roll and dunk it directly into the strawberry icing for maximum flavor and weight gain.

Burning Questions:

1. How much icing is too much icing? I haven’t found it yet.
2. What is your favorite Grands! roll they’ve done? Apple Cinnamon.
3. You didn’t eat this entire pack yourself, did you? You kidding me? Of course.
