Happy Holidays from Junk Banter! Cracker Jack Holiday Sugar Cookie Popcorn is back on shelves and is tonight’s featured review. Junk Banter will be on extended holiday vacation and will return with new reviews shortly after the New Year. Enjoy your time with friends and loved ones!
Here at Junk Banter, we’ve been sending a ringing endorsement for sugar cookie as the winter flavor we want more of. Whether it be Pop Tarts, Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, or an actual plate of sugar cookies, we want more sugar, all the time, right now.
Needless to say when I stumbled across this new Cracker Jack Holiday Sugar Cookie Popcorn at 7-Eleven, I was so excited that I just stood there completely frozen in admiration.
“Can I help you find something, sir?”
“No, I think I just found my wife…“
“Are you ok?”
“Never.“
I can’t even remember the last time I had regular Cracker Jack caramel popcorn. I recall it being just fine, but junk food companies have thrown so many exciting popcorns at me lately: Birthday Cake Popcorn, Cookies & Cream Popcorn, Cinnabon Popcorn. I think popcorn used to be pretty healthy, but I don’t even know what health means anymore.
All I know is I want sugar cookies.
It’s really exciting to see Cracker Jack go down the limited edition road, and even more exciting that they chose sugar cookie as their first entry. I immediately imagined myself eating several bags of these while watching A Christmas Story for 24 hours straight on Christmas Eve until I threw up.
Cracker Jack Holiday Sugar Cookie popcorn even comes with an added surprise – a holiday prize inside!
A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch… For the first time ever, I would have rather gotten socks as a gift.
Moving past the disappoint, Cracker Jack Holiday Sugar Cookie popcorn carries a thick snow white glaze and some red and green sprinkles. The candy-coated popcorn is all sorts of merry. The glaze is smooth and identical to what one would expect from a caramel corn. The flavor is a sweet vanilla. Like, really sweet. I’d like to say too sweet, but it’s not any sweeter than I expected from a Cracker Jack product.
Does it taste like an actual sugar cookie though? Sure, if you use your imagination!
With this being a popcorn and not an actual cookie, you kind of had to resign to the fact that certain elements of a sugar cookie would be absent. The candied popcorn lacks a butteriness that you’d expect from the cookie. I guess you could drizzle some on yourself like you might on plain popcorn, but a single tablespoon of butter might be the only thing separating me from death at this point. The blog has me dangerously close to my lifetime caloric limit.
Also absent is any saltiness whatsoever. This is precisely why I prefer Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie Popcorn to this Cracker Jack version. This popcorn is straight sugar and even has something vaguely “cereal marshmallow” to it. It’s not a bad thing, but it might not the BEST thing for popcorn. Ya feel me?
Cracker Jack Holiday Sugar Cookie Popcorn is something I enjoy simply because of how fun it is: it’s sweet, it’s got sprinkles, and it’s limited edition. Though a bit artificial, it mostly delivers the flavor profile one should expect from the title and from the brand.
Munch on this popcorn when your sweet tooth calls and you’ll be singing Christmas carols to your dog in no time.
