They can’t call ’em Nutella Oreos, but I can!!
Nutella Oreos, aka What Took So Long Oreos, aka Spreadable Chocolate Crack Oreos, are finally here under the name “Chocolate Hazelnut” Oreos.
So why didn’t they just call them Nutella Oreos, and what the hell took so long?
Casual idiots don’t realize that Nutella is a brand name (not a product category), owned by Italian company Ferrero (the same people that make those delightful Ferrero Rocher). To sell these cookies with official Nutella branding would require licensing agreements and probably some profit-sharing, which is the same reason we got “Fruity Crisp Oreos” instead of Fruity Pebbles Oreos.
So, Nabisco named the primary ingredients, slapped on an image of a Nutella-like spread, and called them Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos. But since I’m not affiliated with Oreo and nobody knows I exist, these are forever and always “Nutella Oreos.”
And as for what took so long to make this highly requested flavor? Beats me. Maybe they exhausted all their resources making Swedish Fish Oreos taste awful, since that truly was an “All Hands on Deck” kind of failure.
Nutella Oreos are long overdue…
Nutella Oreos feature the Golden wafer and a Nutella flavored creme.
Now, many of you are probably mad that Nabisco didn’t use the chocolate wafer for these Nutella Oreos. Not me. If you think about it, you’re far more likely to spread Nutella on something like a graham cracker than you are a chocolate bar. Not that I’d judge you or anything… you’re talking to a guy who once put Nutella on pizza.
…twice.
BUT, the next question is: why didn’t they use the graham cookie then? My best guess is that they were still floating pretty high from whatever shit they smoked when they conceived Swedish Fish Oreos, Peeps Oreos, and Hot & Spicy Cinnamon Oreos.
The smell of Nutella Oreos is more chocolate forward than hazelnut, but the nutty undertones are quite enticing.
The creme is DEFINITELY delicious, as if there was ever any question. A lot more hazelnut comes through than the aroma invites, successfully reminding me of both Nutella AND the Ferrero Rocher candies. Comparing it to something like Cookie Butter Oreos, this creme is more accurate to the spread for which it was designed after.
And as great as it is, there are some limitations. The Golden Oreo wafer does have a distinct flavor that might be a little too strong to let the creme shine as much as it should have. This reemphasizes my suspicion that the graham wafer would have worked better – a more neutral taste that complements more naturally and doesn’t interfere. I found Nutella Oreos more enjoyable when eaten with one wafer removed – just like how you’d spread Nutella on a biscuit cookie, on a slice of bread, or below your partner’s belly button.
Many points are awarded for the authenticity of this creme though, and it’s still an absolutely delightful cookie.
These Nutella Oreos are dangerous.

I’m eating them now. I agree 100% with your review.
Glad to hear we’re in agreement Nit!! My closest comp was the Cookie Butter Butter but this nailed the creme a lot better!
They are gross! They do not taste at all like hazelnut/nutella. I’m sorry I wasted my money. Tried and tossed. Never again! Tasted like a very strong chemical. Yuck!
